57 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BERRY, Roy Roy was born in Parkinson Township, Ontario on March 11, 1920. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 2, 1943 and served in Canada, in the North Atlantic, the United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean area on the #1 Canadian Hospital Ship, the Lady Nelson. Sergeant Berry received the 1939-1945 Star, the Atlantic Star, the Italy Star, the War Medal 1939-1945, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the Defence Medal. Roy married Sergeant Irene Jessie Pearce in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 2, 1946 and upon discharge a few months later, on June 2, they purchased a farm in Kynoch Township where they spent the rest of their lives. Roy passed away on August 27, 1999. BIGRAS, Joseph Ronald Joseph was born on June 12, 1923, in Carleton Place, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on March 21, 1941 and served until his discharge on February 1, 1946. He was a private in the 1st Tank Ordnance Workshop and served in England, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp andWar Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 192 for 45 years. Joseph passed away on August 22, 1991. BERTHIAUME, Christine Anne “Chris” Chris was born in Windsor, Ontario on April 16, 1951. She was 23 years old when she joined the forces. She went to Cornwallis for her training then she went on to Borden for Military Police training. Her class was the first women class to do the same training as the men. Chris was stationed at an Air Force Base in Downsview near Toronto. In 1976, she went to the Olympics in Montreal. Her job was to watch the female athletes. After being honourably discharged in 1984, she joined the Air Force reserves. She was the first full time woman police officer in Summerside, PEI. Chris came back to Windsor in 1993 and worked for Casino Windsor for the next twenty years. She is now retired and is a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255.
