63 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOORMAN, Gerald H. Gerald was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 6, 1924. He joined the Army in 1940 and served in Europe as an engineer with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps until his discharge in 1945. He also served in Korea from 1950-51. Gerald was a snow plow operator at CFB Borden and was a member of Angus Legion Branch 499 for forty years as well as a Past President. He passed away in May 1996. BOWERS, Robert Joseph Robert was born in Gananoque, Ontario on June 30, 1914. He joined the Canadian Army in 1943 and served with the 17th Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars in England. He passed away on April 27, 1997. BOURCIER, Lionel J. Lionel was born on August 19, 1924, in Espanola, Ontario. He joined the Army in 1943 and served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in Canada, United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe until his discharge in 1946. Lionel was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Forces Decoration. On his return home after the war, he served his town for many years spending ten years each on the Espanola Police Force and the Volunteer Fire Department. He was also 37 years with International Nickel. Lionel was a member of Espanola Legion Branch 39 for 67 years and served with the Northern Branch of the War Pensioners of Canada. He earned many accolades along the way, including a Life Membership and a Meritorious Service Medal with The Royal Canadian Legion. Lionel raised seven children with his wife Doreen and he passed away on January 12, 2013.
