65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOYCE, George A. George was born in London, England on January 5, 1894. As a 20-year-old farmer with one year of military service, he was one of the first to enlist in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on September 22, 1914. He served with the 2nd Battalion (Eastern Ontario Regiment) in Canada, France and Belgium and was killed in action at Passchendaele Ridge on November 6, 1917 at the age of 23. He has no known grave. George is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium, Panel 10-26-28 and his name also appears on page 205 of The First World War Book of Remembrance in The Peace Tower in Ottawa. His Medals, the Memorial Cross presented to his mother and other memorabilia, are displayed with dignity and honour at Kitchener’s Legion Branch 50. BOYER, Gilbert Davies “Gil” Gilbert was born in Bracebridge, Ontario on June 26, 1916. He was one of five brothers and one sister who all volunteered and served inWorldWar II. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on February 23, 1941 and served with 408 Squadron in Europe. Gil was killed in service on April 3, 1943 in Uden, Holland. BOYD, John F. John was born in Stratford, Ontario on May 30, 1940. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy on January 28, 1959 and served all over the world on Canadian warships, including HMCS Sioux and HMCS Fort Erie. He was discharged on January 3, 1962. John was a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8 for ten years before he passed away on November 30, 2006.
