75 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BUFFAM, Arthur John Ernest Arthur was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario on September 8, 1887, to Arthur Buffam and Mary Hyndman. He enlisted in the Army on May 20, 1916 with the 7th Canadian Mounted Rifles, and embarked to England on March 26, where he was taken on strength on April 8, 1917 with the 8th Reinforcement Battalion, Shorncliffe. Arthur transferred to the Canadian Railway Troop (CRT) Shorncliffe; 10th Battalion on May 28, 1917. Arthur embarked to France on June 17 and arrived in Havre on June 19, 1917. He returned to Knotty Ash near Liverpool for demobilization on January 28, 1919. He returned to Canada on March 19, 1919 and was discharged on March 29. Arthur passed away on July 16, 1966. BUFFAM, Robert Earl Robert was born in Aylmer, Quebec on March 9, 1920 to Ernest Buffam and Florence Janoe. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1941 and served as a Gunner with Militia 1st Fld Bde., 17th Canadian Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA), and 2ndAnti-Tank Regiment RCA. Robert was one of six brothers who served inWorldWar II. He was released from the Army on November 1, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal 1939-1945, Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He returned to Canada and resided in Carleton Place where he worked as a carpenter. Robert passed away on May 17, 1977. BUFFAM, Meredith Lawrence Meredith was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on October 23, 1917, to Arthur Ernest Buffam and Florence Janoe. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 15, 1941 with Militia 1st Fld Bde., 1 Medium Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA). Meredith was one of six brothers who served in World War II and he deployed overseas to England, Italy, and Northwestern Europe. The 1st Medium Regiment was one of six Canadian Medium Regiments overseas. He was wounded in May 1944 and was awarded the 1935-1945 Star, War Medal 19391945, Italy Star, Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. On his release on November 7, 1945, Meredith returned to Canada and passed away in Carleton Place on April 25, 1992.
