79 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BURNS, George M. George was born on September 13, 1911, in Blenheim, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in February 1943 and served on Corvettes in the North Atlantic off the East Coast. He also served on Tall Ships as sonar sub hunter, with no armaments but was given hardship discharge in February 1944 to return home to farm. George married, had three children, farmed in the Blenheim area and worked for H. M. Fleming in Blenheim. He was Chief Steward of Branch 185 from 1962 to 1976. George retired in 1976 and passed away on January 10, 1988. BURTON, Harold Harold was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on February 16, 1916. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 21, 1942 and served in England with the Oxford Rifles, 1st Battalion. He was discharged on April 5, 1946. Harold died on March 17, 2008. BURROWS, Arthur William “Art” Art, born on May 15, 1914, was the only son of Arthur Burrows Sr. and Margaret (Hall) of Glamis, Ontario. He worked as a labourer prior to enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1942 and serving overseas in England and Italy. Following the war, he returned to Walkerton and married Ruby Mac Sween in 1949. Art was a carpenter by trade and they lived in the area, eventually retiring in Wingham. Following his wife’s death in 1973, Art was remarried to Doris Willis. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lucknow Branch 309. Arthur passed away in November 2000 and is buried with his first wife in Douglas Hill Cemetery in Brockton, Ontario.
