93 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CATTO, John M. John was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 11, 1899. He joined the RNAS in December 1917 and later joined the 115 Squadron in France to fly Handley Page night bombers. After the war, he joined the Canadian Air Force until it disbanded in 1924. He then joined the #2 Cyclist Company, Corps of Guides, and then transferred to 2nd Division Sigs in 1928. In September 1939, he enlisted for active service and served in England, France, Belgium and Holland as Chief Cipher Officer, 1 Canadian Army. He retired from active service in September 1945 and was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire, later becoming Hon. Col. of 709 (Toronto) Communication Regiment from 1976 to about 1984. John was a member of FortYork Legion Branch 165 for 35 years before he passed away on April 20, 1990. CHAMBERLAIN, Delphis Delphis was born in 1907. He was active with the Canadian Army and received the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and Defence Medal. As well he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on November 6, 1940 and served with No. 7 District Depot in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean Area. Private Delphis Chamberlain was released from service on June 19, 1946. CHALMERS, Donavon Miller Donavon was born on February 4, 1921, in Grand Coulee, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1939 and was shipped off to England. He served during World War II in the Armoured Corp Sherman tank Unit and the Royal Canadian Medical Corps in Holland and Italy. Donavan returned to England and married in 1944. He received a Bachelors Degree at University of Western Ontario being discharged in 1945. He joined the Grey and Simcoe Foresters in Owen Sound and retired in the rank of Major. He received service medals and they are displayed at The Royal Canadian Legion Owen Sound Branch 6. He resided in Owen Sound from 1951 until his death on March 5, 2008.
