97 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHEESEMAN, Roy Roy was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 1, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served on the high seas aboard HMSPremier (C.P.O.). He was discharged in 1945. Roy died on March 18, 1981. CLARK, Benjamin Benjamin was born on September 29, 1880, in Broughton, Northampton County, England. He served in the Althorpe Park Volunteers Reserves before immigrating to Canada with his wife and three children before the outbreak of World War I. He settled in Verdun, Quebec. Benjamin enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on October 26, 1914 and served as a Private in Canada, Britain and France with the 18th Battalion until his discharge on July 3, 1919. Upon his return to Canada, he went to work for the Henry Morgan Department Store in Montreal, Quebec where he rose to the position of Assistant Manager. Benjamin worked there until his death at the age of 62. CHENEVERT (URQUHART), Jessie Almeda Jessie was born in Ottawa on February 1, 1922. After training to become a nurse, she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1951 and was one of sixty Canadian nurses to serve in Korea. She spent 25 years in the AMC and retired as director of nursing at the National Defence Medical Centre in Ottawa. She was released from service in 1976 at the rank of Lt. Col. Upon retiring, Jessie spent several years in Florida before moving back to Canada in 2000. She now resides at the Perley Health Centre where she celebrated her 100th birthday.
