Pilgrimage of Remembrance

Every second year (in the odd numbered years) Ontario Command branches participate in the Pilgrimage of Remembrance Program. The program, a tour of Canadian memorials and war graves in Europe, is organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy and Remembrance Committee.

Applications are received and presented from each District in Ontario Command. When reviewing each application, the following factors shall be recognized:

  • Must be the age of majority;( 19 years of age in Ontario)
  • Must be a member of The Royal Canadian Legion and possess proper Legion Dress while on the pilgrimage;
  • Must be active as a leader of youth groups and youth programs, youth education e.g. teachers, instructors, coaches, committee chairmen, Cadets, etc.
  • Must attach a separate document to their application form, outlining their post Pilgrimage activities, specifically how they expect to pass on their Remembrance experiences gained from the Pilgrimage to youth groups, Legion branches, the media and other organizations upon their return. This individual must also be able to develop their own video or slide presentation and Provincial Commands will determine the expectations for presentation.
