111 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FINNEY, Douglas J. Douglas was born in Kingston, Ontario on July 2, 1932. He enlisted on August 20, 1951 and served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in Korea for 14 months, attached to the 81st Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was discharged on August 20, 1954 after which he worked for the Pyrene Manufacturing Company for four years, with Canada Dry for eight years, Boys Clubs of Canada in Oshawa for eight years and thirteen years with the Royal Canadian Legion as the Business Manager of Oshawa Legion Branch 43. Douglas was also the Veteran Service Officer for thirty years and a member of the Oshawa Legion for forty-two years. Douglas received the Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, the Silver Jubilee Medal in 2012, the Distinguished Service Star in 2003 and a Life Membership of The Royal Canadian Legion in 1985. FRECH, Edwin Charles “Ed” Ed was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 19, 1925. He enlisted on May 26, 1943 and served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on HMCS Prince Henry and participated in the landings on D-Day, then Isle du Levant, Toulon, and then on to Greece and Egypt. After his discharge on October 31, 1945, he married Ruth Abel and they raised a family of six in their hometown of Sault Ste. Marie where he worked at Algoma steel Corp. for 40 years. Ed was a member of Sault Ste. Marie Legion Branch 25 for three years and he passed away on February 26, 1998. FORSYTHE, Hugh T. Hugh was born on December 21, 1923 in Huntsville, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 9, 1942 and served in Canada until his discharge on October 15, 1945. After the war, Hugh spent many years volunteering with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets (647 Squadron) in Kapuskasing where he provided flight instruction to many Cadets who graduated as pilots. He spent many summers as instructor at the Cadet Camp in Trenton, Ontario. Hugh has been a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for thirty-eight years.
