191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MANSFIELD, Robert S. Robert was born in London, Ontario on November 26, 1921. He joined the Army in 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in France, Belgium and Holland. He was discharged in 1946. Robert was a member of Lions Head Legion Branch 202 for sixty-two years until he passed away on March 28, 2014. MARION, Fernand J. Fernand was born in Metcalfe, Ontario on February 8, 1922. He enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1940 as a part of the Royal Canadian Artillery 1st Anti-tank Regiment. Fernand served as a Gunner in Canada, United Kingdom as well as in Sicily and Ortona, Italy during World War II. For his service, he earned the 1935-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was discharged on July 16, 1945. Fernand was a member of Cornwall Legion Branch 297 for thirty years before he passed away on January 11, 1999. MARACLE, Robert Arthur “Bob” Bob was born on January 24, 1917 as Mohawk from the Six Nations of the Grand River and he lived in St. Thomas, Ontario. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers on July 21, 1942 and served as a Corporal in Canada, the North Pacific area, in the central Mediterranean area, the United Kingdom and Continental during WWII. He built and tore down bridges until his discharge on June 28, 1946. Bob received the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star as well as the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Bob then married Betty Phillips and settled in Waterford to raise a family of eight children. He was a member of Simcoe Legion Branch 79 for twenty-two years until he passed away on January 3, 1970.
