201 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MCDONALD, William M. William was born in Reserve Mines (now Glace Bay), Nova Scotia on November 30, 1883. He joined the 36th (Howitzer) Battery, Canadian Field Artillery at Sydney, Nova Scotia on September 10, 1915 and left St. John, New Brunswick on the SS Missanabie on March 2, 1916, arriving in England on the 13th. His unit joined the 9th Brigade of the Canadian Divisional Artillery in France on July 14, 1916. Gunner McDonald saw action through to the end of the war, including Vimy Ridge and The Hundred Days. After serving in Canada, France and Belgium, he was demobilized at Halifax, Nova Scotia in March 1919. His medals are displayed with dignity and honour at Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 in Kitchener. MCELMAN, James O. James was born on March 5, 1918 in Marysville, New Brunswick. He was a career banker with the Royal Bank working in Fredericton, Plaster Rock, Moncton, Montreal and Ottawa before he enlisted in the Air Force in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 20, 1940. He served as an Air Gunner after training in western Canada, Ontario and England where he was injured in an airplane crash. After being discharged in Rockliffe Air Force Base on August 9, 1943, he resumed his career at RBC which lasted more than 40 years. James was married to Kathleen Currie for 63 years and they had two children. He was a member of The Legion in Mount Royal before he passed away on April 6, 2008. MCDOUGALL, Lauchlan Lauchlan was born in Gordon Township on July 3, 1918. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II. Lauchlan was a POW after his aircraft was shot down in 1944. He was discharged in 1945 and he passed away September 23, 1983.
