49 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOYD, John F. John was born in Stratford, Ontario on May 30, 1940. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy on January 28, 1959 and served all over the world on Canadian warships, including HMCS Sioux and HMCS Fort Erie. He was discharged on January 3, 1962. John was a member of Stratford Legion Branch 8 for ten years before he passed away on November 30, 2006. BROOKS, Arthur George “Art” Art was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 26, 1922. In early 1942, at the age of 19, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was sent to England in 1943 after training in Bagotville, Quebec. He was seconded to the Royal Air Force and sent to RAF Skellingthorpe where he was assigned to 61 Squadron, Bomber Command, flying in the Avro Lancaster. Art completed 30 missions as a tail gunner in Lancaster bombers and had flown several other missions as part of a second tour when he was re-assigned to train new airmen. On two separate occasions, his plane was forced to crash-land in the United Kingdom. After the war, he decided to remain in the Air Force and retired in 1966 as Warrant Officer 2. Art has been a member of Perth Legion Branch 244 for twenty-eight years. BRIGGS, Edward A. “Ted” Ted was born on June 3, 1938 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He was a Trooper in the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Summer Recruit Course in 1957 then enlisted as a Private in the 13 Medical Company of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps Militia in September 1958. He progressed up the ranks to Warrant Officer Second Class before having to leave the unit in November 1968 due to work commitments. Ted has been a member of Owen Sound Legion Branch 6 since 1965.
