79 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COOPER, Robert Gardner Robert was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on October 29, 1934. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) in 1953 and served in search and rescue operations in numerous locations in Canada and Germany. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with bar. On retirement, he joined the public service and worked in quality assurance. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Orleans Branch 632 for 36 years. Robert lived in Orleans, Ontario during 1980-2021. Robert passed away on January 6, 2021. CORMIER, James Donald Donald was born on July 26, 1923, in Saint John, New Brunswick. He joined the 1st Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Artillery Army on April 20, 1942 and was shipped to England. Donald saw action in Italy, the Netherlands, and Europe as a Lance Bombardier in World War II until his discharge on November 20, 1945. The Netherlands became his favourite European spot where he had made many friends. He was left with hearing loss caused by the noise of the Anti-tank guns. Donald received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, and Italy Star. Elizabeth Boudreau and Donald were married in 1950 and they raised five children. He was employed in the Machine Shop at Collins Radio Company in Toronto. He was a proud and active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Bay Ridges Branch 606 in Pickering and previously Baron Byng Branch 1 in Toronto and Ken Stinson Branch 458 in Tamworth where he was awarded a Life Membership in 1997 for a total of 56 years of service. Donald passed away on October 27, 2020, and is laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery in Whitby, Ontario. COPP, James Wilfred I. James was born in Elmwood, Ontario on May 29, 1925. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 19, 1944, and served with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in the United Kingdom, Northwest Europe, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was released on August 3, 1946. He was a 33-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 282 Shallow Lake. James lived in Shallow Lake from 1966 until his passing on December 17, 1999.
