143 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUMONT, Marcel Henri Marcel was born in Ville Marie, QC on July 4, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on February 21, 1952 and served in Korea. He was discharged on February 20, 1955 and was awarded the United Nations and Korean Service Medals. After his service, he worked as a miner. He was an active member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 for 43 years. Marcel passed away on July 23, 2000. DUNSMORE, Albert H. Albert “Bert” was born in Strathroy Ontario on 4 December 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) as an Infantryman on 1 December 1939 at London Ontario and served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. Bert had previously served with the Middlesex and Huron Militia Regiment in Strathroy for 3 years. He trained as a rifleman but also employed as a driver and served in England, Sicily Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Bert had rescued a couple and their 3 day old daughter in Barneveld, Holland. Bert passed away on 2 June 1970, and years later his wife went to Holland and met that daughter. Medals include the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 193945. Due to demobilization, Bert was honourably discharged on 4 August 1945 at the rank of Private in London Ontario. DUNDAS, John O. “Jack” Jack was born on June 20, 1921 in Thorold, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 16, 1942. He served with No. 424 Squadron in England during World War II. He piloted a Halifax III named “Bambi”. Jack was discharged on March 14, 1945 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for great gallantry in the performance of his duty.
